Description:

Item: 1950s short sleeve cable knit cardigan in cream. The front carries three raised poodle motifs in tonal cream thread with rhinestone detail - worked in a dimensional, textured style that stands proud of the knit ground. Full button placket with small cream buttons, spread collar and ribbed cuffs and hem. The cable pattern runs in broad vertical panels across the body and sleeves. A fitted, slightly cropped cut very typical of 1950s knitwear.

Provenance Note: Poodle cardigans are among the most recognisable collectibles from 1950s womenswear, but genuinely good examples - with well-executed raised embroidery, intact rhinestone detail and strong original condition - are considerably harder to find than the name suggests. This one delivers on all counts. The tonal cream-on-cream approach is more refined than the coloured examples, and the dimensional needlework is carefully done, each poodle distinct and fully intact.
