Description:

Item: A 1970s black leather jacket labelled Echtes Leder, the German certification for genuine leather. Wide notched lapel, three button front, twin chest patch pockets with button flaps and vertical topstitched panel detailing running the length of the body. A straight, slim cut with good suppleness to the leather and strong period character throughout.

Provenance Note: Echtes Leder, meaning genuine leather, was the standard German quality mark applied to leather garments produced for the domestic market through the postwar decades. West German leather outerwear of the 1960s and 70s was produced to a consistently high standard, with an emphasis on honest construction and durable hides. The vertical topstitched panelling on this example is a particularly characteristic detail of the period.
