Item: 1950s-1960s long sleeve knit cardigan by Pomme Chic, made in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Teal ground with silver lurex running through the knit, giving the fabric a subtle all-over shimmer. The V-neckline, twin patch pockets and cuffs are all trimmed with an open-work silver lurex crochet-style border - detailed and consistently worked throughout. Teal satin lining. Four teal self-covered buttons down the centre front. A relaxed, boxy cut with a straight body and set-in sleeves.

Provenance Note: Pomme Chic operated out of Kowloon during the peak years of Hong Kong's export knitwear industry, producing pieces for the Western fashion market with a level of finish that sits well above the typical export trade standard. The combination of lurex-threaded ground knit, open-work crochet trim and satin lining in a matching teal throughout is a cohesive, carefully considered design - this was made to a specification, not knocked out cheaply. Surviving examples in this condition are genuinely hard to come by. A distinctive, well-made piece from a little-known label with real period character.
