1950s | Boy Scouts of America | Wool Uniform Overshirt | Red – S
Description:
Item:
Original Boy Scouts of America wool uniform overshirt in deep red, dating to the 1950s. Heavy, dense wool construction with twin chest pockets, button front and a structured collar. Cut with a straight, boxy silhouette through the body, giving it that unmistakable mid-century uniform shape. It wears closer to a light jacket than a shirt, with real weight and presence.
Era:
1950s
Brand:
Boy Scouts of America
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. Strong, rich colour throughout with no significant fading. No holes, thinning or repairs. The wool remains dense and healthy, showing only light, honest wear that adds character and authenticity.
Provenance Note:
This is a far earlier and more substantial version of the BSA overshirt, produced when uniform garments were still made with near-military standards of quality. The weight of the wool, the construction and the cut all place it firmly in the golden age of American uniform manufacture. Pieces like this were built to last a lifetime of use, not seasons. That depth of construction is exactly why they have survived so well and why they now sit so comfortably in the world of serious vintage collecting. It carries genuine institutional history, strong visual impact and a level of build quality that modern garments simply do not match.

Condition Notes:
Please be aware. All our true vintage items come with a history, and minor signs of age, wear, or character should be expected. Any notable marks, damage, or repairs will always be clearly mentioned. This natural wear is part of what gives genuine vintage its individuality and authenticity. True vintage should not be confused with modern second-hand clothing
We photograph all garments using a professional, studio-grade imaging system designed to show colour, texture, and shape as accurately as possible. This setup was built specifically to give a true representation of each piece and avoid misleading presentation, however, we do not take photos of inside the garment. While we take great care in inspecting every piece, with true vintage it is always possible that a minor detail may be missed.
Sizing Notes:
Please compare these measurements to a similar item you already own, laid flat (rather than measuring your body). Start with pit-to-pit (chest), then check length. Vintage pieces can be cut boxier and shorter than modern equivalents, so the measurements listed are the best guide to fit.
Our modern sizing estimates are based on chest measurements using the following tee sizing scale:
31–34″ = XXS
35–36″ = XS
37–38″ = S
39–40″ = M
41–42″ = L
43–44″ = XL
45–46″ = XXL
47–48″ = 3XL
For jackets, knitwear, and padded outerwear, we grade one size down from the tee scale to allow for structure, lining, and bulk.
