Description:

Item: A 1960s Icelandic style wool jumper, in a lopapeysa design with a cream yoke worked in grey and black zigzag and diamond patterning, giving way to a solid charcoal body and a matching cream diamond band at the hem. Finished with a ribbed crew neck, long sleeves and ribbed cuffs.

Era: 1960s

Condition: Very good vintage condition, with light wear consistent with age and use.

Provenance Note: The lopapeysa construction is genuinely traditional, that circular patterned yoke sitting over a plain body being the defining feature of Icelandic knitwear, and this one carries it well, with the zigzag and diamond bands echoed again at the hem to bookend the design. The undyed, naturally toned wool gives it real warmth of colour, and the brushed texture throughout adds extra depth to the patterning.
