Description:

Item: 1970s V-neck jumper in pure new wool, made in New Zealand. Solid red throughout in a plain, fine stocking stitch. V-neckline with ribbed trim, raglan sleeves, ribbed cuffs and hem, and a relaxed, generously cut fit. A clean, well-made jumper in a strong colour with a good weight to it.

Provenance Note: New Zealand was a significant producer of quality wool knitwear through the mid-twentieth century, the country's sheep farming heritage translating into a domestic industry with access to excellent raw material. Pure new wool of this kind has a natural warmth, resilience and softness that synthetic blends approach but do not fully replicate, and the stocking stitch here shows the quality of the fibre to good effect: smooth, even, and holding its colour well after fifty years. A straightforward, well-made jumper that speaks for itself.
