Description:

Item: 1970s short sleeve mini dress in a cotton blend. Red ground with a large-scale all-over print of paisley forms, scrolling botanical motifs and stylised flowers in tonal red, pink and white. Round neckline with a back zip, short puffed sleeves with structured shoulders, and a straight, fitted shift cut through the body. A bold, saturated print on a clean, well-proportioned silhouette.

Provenance Note: Working entirely within the red and white palette gives this print an intensity that multi-colour versions of the same design tradition rarely achieve. The paisley and botanical forms are large-scale and generously drawn, the white outlining keeping the individual motifs readable across what is otherwise a very full, dense repeat. The shift cut is the right choice for a print this strong: unfussy and direct, it lets the fabric carry the piece without competition from the construction.
