Item: 1970s pleated mini skirt in a polyester blend, made in England. Solid red throughout. Flat waistband with a self-colour button fastening, and a panel of deep knife pleats running down the left side, the right side sitting flat. A sharp, clean skirt with a strong colour and a well-pressed pleat.

Provenance Note: The knife-pleated mini skirt was a staple of 1970s British fashion, practical and versatile in its cut and well-suited to the bold solid colours the decade favoured. In red, the design needs nothing else: the pleats provide movement and the flat waistband keeps the whole thing clean and unfussy. The polyester blend fabric holds a pleat well and has kept its colour and surface in excellent order. A simple, direct piece made in England at a time when domestic garment production was still the norm.
