Description:

Item: 1970s long sleeve shirt dress by TGL of Sweden in a cotton and polyester blend, deadstock condition. Cream ground with an all-over abstract wave print in red and dark brown, the lines rippling and folding across the fabric in a continuous, restless pattern. Band collar, full button placket with red buttons, and long sleeves with buttoned cuffs. A straight, unfussy cut that lets the print carry the piece.

Provenance Note: The print is an interesting one: not geometric, not floral, but something closer to a topographic or geological abstraction, the lines folding over one another in a way that shifts slightly depending on how the eye moves across it. This kind of all-over abstract pattern was a confident choice in early 1970s textile design, sitting alongside the Op Art influences of the period without being a straightforward product of them. TGL applied it here to a clean, well-proportioned shirt dress cut that gives the fabric room to be seen. As with many quality synthetic blends of this era, the fabric has retained its surface and colour in deadstock condition exactly as produced.
