Description:

Item: 1970s long sleeve mini dress by TGL of Sweden in acetate, deadstock condition. Green ground with an all-over black floral silhouette print, the blooms and leaves rendered as bold, flat forms against the bright ground. High round neck with a back zip, smocked elasticated waist drawing the dress in before flaring into the skirt, and long sleeves with gathered ruched cuffs. A well-proportioned mini with a strong graphic contrast.

Provenance Note: Acetate was a favoured fabric for printed dresses of this period, its smooth surface giving printed colours a particular clarity and depth. The high-contrast print here benefits from that: the black floral silhouettes sitting cleanly against the bright green ground with no muddying of the edge. The smocked waist and ruched cuffs are carefully considered details that give the dress its shape and movement, the gathered fabric adding softness to what is otherwise a bold, graphic piece. In deadstock condition throughout.
