Description:

Item: 1970s long sleeve dress by TGL of Sweden in a polyester blend. Navy ground with a vertical stripe print in white, alternating columns of diamond lattice and daisy forms running the length of the fabric. Round neckline with a back zip, voluminous bloused long sleeves gathered into the cuff, and a gently A-line cut with a flared hem and frill detail at the base. A well-structured dress with considerable movement in the sleeves.

Provenance Note: The vertical stripe format is an interesting choice for a dress of this cut: the alternating diamond and daisy columns draw the eye downward while the full bloused sleeves create width at the shoulders, the two working in productive tension. The print itself is precise and well-drawn, the geometric and floral elements sitting in clear alternation without bleeding into one another. The frill at the hem is a light finishing detail that suits the overall softness of the sleeve volume. A dress with more considered construction than its everyday character might first suggest.
