Description:

Item: 1970s short sleeve blouse by TGL of Sweden in a Vincel and cotton blend, deadstock condition. Red ground with an all-over scattered print of riding stirrups and leather straps with gold buckles in black, green and white, distributed freely across the fabric. Wide pointed shirt collar, short button placket with red buttons, and short sleeves with turn-back cuffs. A fitted, well-cut blouse with a confident equestrian novelty print.

Provenance Note: The equestrian print was a recurring motif in 1970s fashion, the decade's enthusiasm for country and sporting references finding a natural home in stirrups, bridles and buckles as textile subjects. The motifs here are rendered with a clean, graphic simplicity: the stirrup form immediately recognisable, the leather strap and gold buckle below it giving each repeat a neat vertical structure. Scattered freely across the red ground in varying orientations, they sit with a casualness that keeps the print from feeling too formal. In deadstock condition throughout.
