Description:

Item: 1970s long sleeve blouse by Wacoat in polyester. White ground with a bold diagonal stripe print in orange, the stripes themselves composed of fine pin lines grouped into broad bands that sweep across the fabric at a confident angle. Pointed shirt collar, full button placket with orange self-colour buttons, and long sleeves with deep turn-back cuffs. A light, fluid blouse with a strong graphic print.

Provenance Note: The diagonal stripe here is more complex than it first appears: each broad band is itself made up of grouped fine pin stripes, giving the print two levels of structure — the macro sweep of the diagonal and the fine detail within each band. The orange and white combination is clean and vivid, and the polyester fabric carries the print with a crispness and clarity that suits the bold graphic intention. The deep turn-back cuffs are a well-proportioned detail for a blouse of this character. As with quality polyester garments of this era, the fabric has held its surface and colour well.
