Provenance Note: The "Paul R. Smith" label places this firmly in the early years of the brand - before the Nottingham-born designer had abbreviated to the name now synonymous with British tailoring. Paul Smith was dressing a particular kind of well-informed man in the 1980s: the cut is confident without being showy, and the chalk stripe on grey is a cloth combination that has never really gone out. Early labelling is genuinely sought after by collectors, and this is a solid, wearable example with the added interest of the original trading name intact.
