Item: Early 1980s short sleeve dress in a lightweight rayon blend. Yellow ground with an all-over print of concentric circles in teal, orange, red and green — each one slightly different in scale and colouring, giving the pattern a lively, almost hand-painted quality. Sweetheart neckline with a short button placket, gently gathered short sleeves, fitted waist and a full, softly pleated skirt. Shoulder pads are present and can be removed if preferred. A cheerful, light dress with a strong graphic sensibility.

Provenance Note: The concentric circle motif has a long history in twentieth century design — appearing in Op Art, in psychedelic graphics, and in the decorative arts — and this print draws on all of that lineage with an easy confidence. The rayon blend fabric handles the print well, the lightweight drape giving the gathered skirt its movement. A piece with more visual complexity to it than first glance suggests.
